D.O. Oil Campo de Calatrava

The Campo de Calatrava Oil is an extra virgin olive oil made from at least 80% of the Cornicabra olive varieties, complemented by a second recognised variety Picual, both of which are always present in Campo de Calatrava oils. This oil is obtained by mechanical or physical means that do not alter the product and preserve its fragrance, flavour and characteristics.

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA:
The natural region of Campo de Calatrava is situated in the province of Ciudad Real in the autonomous region of Castilla La Mancha. The name of this region includes the municipalities of Aldea del Rey, Almagro, Argamasilla de Calatrava, Ballesteros de Calatrava, Bolaños de Calatrava, Calzada de Calatrava, Cañada de Calatrava, Carrión de Calatrava, Granátula de Calatrava, Miguelturra, Moral de Calatrava, Pozuelo de Calatrava, Torralba de Calatrava, Valenzuela de Calatrava, Villanueva de San Carlos and Villar del Pozo.

FLAVOUR:
The sensation in the mouth is intense, you can notice a bitter and spicy flavour texture whose intensity values range from 3 up to 6.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Its colour ranges between intense green and green-yellow. It has a high content of oleic acid with minimum values of 70%.

INFORMATION:
The blend between the Cornicabra and Picual olives is given by the geographical location of the Campo de Calatrava region, which positioned halfway between the olive groves to the north of Ciudad Real where the former variety predominates, while the latter cultivated in Jaén is in abundance. All the olives used in the preparation of olive oil with the Campo de Calatrava designation of origin must be picked on the fly and not from the ground, which is why it is obligatory to separate them during the harvest.
Extra virgin olive oil made from the Cornicabra olive varieties to at least 80%, which is complemented with the second recognized variety Picual, both of which always appear in Campo de Calatrava oils. It is obtained by mechanical or other physical means that do not alter the product and preserve its aroma, taste and characteristics.
The Association for the Promotion of Oil from Campo de Calatrava was set up in November 2005. Two years later, the government of Castilla-La Mancha issued its favourable decision to register Campo de Calatrava Oil as a PDO and product certification. The olive groves of Campo de Calatrava share the municipal boundaries of 16 towns in the region. They are spread over an area of 22,073 hectares and their average annual production amounts to 5,210 tonnes of oil.
