Denomination of Origin La Mancha
Wines under the Denomination of Origin of La Mancha, have an important colouring and aromatic intensity with a great balance of flavour thanks to its sugary grapes. These wines are characterized by having a good alcohol content and marked dryness, and especially red wines are full wines good for aging.
The production area of the Designation of Origin of La Mancha comprises a total of 182 municipalities in the autonomous community of Castilla La Mancha, which are split into the provinces of Albacete(12), Ciudad Real (58), Cuenca (66), and Toledo (46).
Wines under the Denomination of Origin of La Mancha can be: young wines (that must be consumed within nine months of production); traditional (comparable to crianza wines, but they are kept in tanks or vats rather than oak barrels); oak wines (aged in barrels for a minimum of 60 days); crianza wines (aged for a minimum of 2 years, being kept at least six months in oak barrels); reserve wines (aged for a minimum of 12 months in barrels and 24 months in bottle). All of them can be found in the following varieties: white, rosé or red.
The average production of the vineyard in La Mancha is low in comparison with that of the Spanish northern regions, France and Italy. This favours a higher load of sugars in the grapes and less water, allowing for a great wine balance.
