Alarcos religious pilgrimage

Alarcos has been intimately bound to Ciudad Real since the time of its founding. Evidence of this connection is the devotion – which still remains today – for the Virgin of Alarcos, who is worshipped in the chapel at the archaeological site.

Every year on the morning of Pentecost Sunday, following the early morning mass, the virgin is taken from San Pedro Church to the chapel accompanied by thousands of the faithful over the kilometres separating the sanctuary from the city. On Monday, the celebration reaches its peak at the hill, with the procession around the chapel and the entertainment and food activities organised there.
